Valerie Kay Patterson 64, of Whiteland, passed away April 14, 2019.  She was b orn in Indianapolis to Raymond (Pa) and Virginia (Ma) Wise. Valerie is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Jerry Patterson; sons Matthew (Katrina) Patterson, and Bartholomew (Anna) Patterson; grandson Matthew Patterson, Jr. and father Raymond Wise.  She was preceded in death by her mother Virginia Wise.

Valerie did not have any brothers or sisters, but in her church she had many. Valerie was saved May 12, 1969 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized into the congregation. She loved her church family and was involved in different roles; Sunday school teacher, Christmas play director, event coordinator, pastor's wife, preacher's mom, prayer warrior, and leader of the alto section. Valerie is a member of Southside Missionary Baptist Church, that she has always considered her home church. In recent years she was unable to attend, but the church was always on her mind and in her heart.
Besides her love for the Lord and her church her love for her grandson, Matthew, was evident, great, obnoxious...take your pick. She was known as GG to him, many kids in the church, and in her neighborhood. Valerie became disabled when he was just a baby, but was still able to provide childcare, read every dinosaur and animal book imaginable, and spoiled him until his school days and beyond. She would worry about his safety and celebrate his accomplishments through the numerous activities and sporting events. GG will be missed.
Valerie enjoyed cooking and set the gold standard for chicken and dumplings as can be seen by looking at the heftiness of her family. She also enjoyed crocheting. Many expecting mothers received handmade baby blankets from her.
Valerie continued helping others after her passing by donating corneas and tissue. Her gifts will enhance the lives of others and provide sight for someone who may not yet be able see their father, husband, son, grandson, or friend.

Visitation will be held Thursday April 18th from 5:00-8:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood, IN.  Funeral Services will be held Friday April 19th at 10:30 AM in the funeral home.  Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
