Obituary

Vance Devlin Crabtree, of Indianapolis, was called home to Christ on Friday, May 29th, 2020. Aged 58, he was born October 4th, 1961 to Jack Alvin Crabtree and Helen Louise Crabtree of Nashville Indiana. Vance attended Brown County High School, graduating class 1980. Vance went on to marry his best friend and lifelong partner Mary Helen Crabtree (Hoagland) on February 4th, 1983. Their loving union would stand as a proud example to their three children that they would welcome into the world in their time together. Vance had a keen mind with an eye for detail that he would put to good use in his time as an accomplished machinist, for home improvements, many a broken toy and household object, odd jobs and favors for friends, family and his community. Vance's gentle nature was evident in his love of nature and God's creatures, his warm smile, and giant bear hugs, providing comfort and strength when none could be found elsewhere. Humor was no small part of his life, as many memories of him will feature laughter and smiles. Whether it was sharing an old story, playful ribbing, or just living in the moment, joy and time spent with Vance were synonymous. An adoring father, a devoted and affectionate husband, stalwart Christian, and a fond friend, the world is not lesser for his passing, but greater for having known him.

Vance was preceded in death by his father (Jack A. Crabtree) and mother (Helen L. Crabtree). Vance is survived by his loving wife and partner Mary H. Crabtree; his daughters and friends Theresa and Noelle Crabtree; his handsome grandson Ray; his son and daughter-in-law Jack and Alanna Crabtree; his brothers David and Nathaniel Crabtree; his sisters Terri Acton, Melissa Stinson, and Faith Crabtree; and a gaggle of loving nieces and nephews; Jamie Stinson, Taelor Smith, Haedon Hill, Kayode Crabtree, Tristan and Zachery Huber.

Family, friends, and others whose lives he enriched are invited to celebrate his memory Tuesday, June 9 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana 46143, with a service to follow at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crabtree family to assist with final expenses.
