Obituary

Vergie Lee Shrum, 80, of Greenwood passed away June 11, 2021.  She was born April 14, 1941 in Streeter, West Virginia to the late Herbert and Ethel (Cooper) Pack.

Vergie was a stay-at-home mom to her four girls, then after they grew up she went to work.  She was in retail for a while and then found a position with St. Francis as a surgical technician.  She retired from there in 2005.  Vergie was a lifelong member of the LDS Church of Indianapolis.  She was the neighborhood mom who hosted all the kids, laughing and dancing and having fun with everyone.  Vergie loved gathering family and friends together at every opportunity for food and fellowship.  She was the true matriarch of the family, keeping them all close.  The last party the family gathered for was for Vergie's 80th birthday in April of this year, and while she was not feeling well, she never let on and danced and sang and laughed, loving her life and all those in it.  Vergie was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Vergie will be forever remembered by her girls, Tina (Gary) Thompson, Terri Whitaker, Janet (Keith) Hill, and Karen Clark; grandchildren, Chad, Jason, Megan, Cory, Shane, Cortney, and Noah; eleven great grandchildren; and siblings, Marylou, Ruby, and Randy.

In addition to her parents, Vergie was preceded in death by her siblings, Vernon and Juanita.

Family will receive friends from 10:00am - 2:00pm Wednesday, June 16 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana 46143 with service to follow at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation: https://kidneyindiana.org/
