Vicki L. Collins Vicki Lyne Collins, 60, of Indianapolis, passed away March 30, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 24, 1950 to Donald M. and Mary E. Gladson. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald. Vicki was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis and a long time member and deaconess of the Southport Baptist Church. After graduation from Emmerich Manual High School, Vicki married Eddie W. Collins, Sr. on October 19, 1969. She took great pride in her life''s profession as wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and friend to many. Vicki and Eddie enjoyed their many years together raising their family, helping neighborhood friends, traveling with their children and later in life, traveling as a couple to many destinations. Nothing was more enjoyable to Vicki than taking care of her family and her well kept home. She was famous for her great cooking skills, always sharing her latest batch of cookies or a cake with family and friends. For many years she took great pleasure in volunteering her time with the ladies of her church with funeral dinners, committee meetings, quilting bees and the Sunshine Circle. When her two children, Denise and Wayne, were young ,Vicki volunteered many a hour helping at their school office and attending school functions. Later, with her granddaughters, Cheyenne and Courtney, she became like a second mother to them, always finding fun and quality time to spend with the girls. Vicki was also a wonderful seamstress. Christmas was always a time at the Collins household to receive gifts sewn with love by Vicki - be it pj pants, ornaments or dolls. Her quilts and cross stitch works of art won many prizes at the Indiana State Fair, and the owners of these art works will always cherish them. Vicki also enjoyed a being a friendly, helping hand to folks in her neighborhood. She helped with cleanups and keeping an eye on ailing friends nearby, and it was not uncommon to see one of the local children stopping by for a snack or to play a game at the Collins house - her door was always open. Her selfless sharing was well know, as Vicki was frequent blood donor. Vicki''s many family members and friends will miss her greatly. She is survived by her husband, Eddie W. Collins, Sr., daughter Denise L. (Ed) Caldwell, son Eddie W. Collins, Jr, mother Mary E. Gladson, sister Patricia L. (Frank) Owings, granddaughters Cheyenne Lyne and Courtney Lee Caldwell, mother-in-law Geraldine Collins, brother-in-law, Tommy Collins, as well as eleven cousins, three aunts, one uncle, and several nieces and nephews. Plus, all of her wonderful and supportive friends. In the last few years of her life, Vicki struggled with the chronic lung illness Sarcoidosis and she was doing everything she could, even up to the time of her death, to make herself a quality candidate for a double lung transplant. Although Vicki lost her battle for life, she will never be forgotten. She will remain in the hearts and memories of all whom loved her! Services will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5, 2011, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. A burial service will follow at Forest Lawn.
