Violet Geneva Barnes, 88, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011. Violet was born on October 3, 1923 in Kokomo to the late Claude and Sadie Ethel (Marlett) Conrad.
Violet worked as a line assistant for Western Electric for 28 years, retiring in 1980. She was a very independent and strong woman who was always helping others. She was very involved with the VFW and volunteered her services. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Church. Above all, Violet was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed.
Violet is survived by her loving son Stanley Barnes (Linda); 2 sisters: Juanita Boyer and Bettie Applegate; 2 grandsons: Eric Barnes and Josh Barnes (Theresa); and 5 great-grandchildren.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert W. Barnes; and sister Jewel.
Forest Lawn Funeral Home is assisting the family. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to any local VFW lodge.
