Obituary

Mr. Virgil William Balvin Sr. of Greenwood passed away on the evening of Monday, November 10, 2025. He was 81 years old.
Virgil was born October 17, 1944, in Dillonvale, Ohio, a son of the late Frank and Vivian Marie (Rankin) Balvin, Jr. After graduating from high school, Virgil proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he was employed with Kroger Bakery on English Avenue in Indianapolis, where he worked faithfully for more than 30 years.
Virgil enjoyed life's simple pleasures—spending time outdoors, fishing in any watering hole he could find, and tending to his yard. He loved watching and feeding the birds and squirrels that visited him, a pastime that reflected his appreciation for nature. A devoted sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching football, cheering for the Miami Dolphins and the Indianapolis Colts, and he rarely missed a good wrestling match on television.
Above all, Virgil cherished time spent with his family. Whether gathered for a meal, a game, or simply sharing stories, those moments brought him his greatest joy.
He is survived by his children, Virgil (Tracy) Balvin, Darren (Peggy) Balvin, Christine (Troy) Fisher, and Braden Balvin; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Valigene (Darlene) Balvin, Bob (Carla) Balvin and Dianne (James) Phillips, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in passing by his beloved wife, Wanda Balvin, and a granddaughter, Billie Balvin and his three brothers, Homer Balvin, Frank Balvin, and Tom Balvin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens following the service. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
