Obituary

Mr. Wallace Dwight Dwigans, Westfield, passed away on the morning of Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was 98. Better known as Dwight, he was born July 1, 1925 in Noblesville, Indiana, a son of the late Clinton Henry and Maxine (Ayres) Dwigans.
Dwight attended schools in Hamilton County, Indiana and then honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. In keeping with his military service, he was a member of both the VFW and the American Legion.
Dwight spent his working career as a diesel mechanic with Eastern Express and then with Campbell's Express and retired in 1982 after many years of faithful service in the trucking industry.
Dwight was a member of the Noblesville Senior Citizens Center where he enjoyed countless hours playing Euchre and Bingo with his friends. He had also been a member of various Euchre and Bingo clubs in the area.
Dwight spent much of his leisure time playing the piano and harmonica and had an impressive collection of harmonicas. He also enjoyed traveling around the country with his wife, Edith, as well as visiting their cabin and boating at Raccoon Lake. He also enjoyed watching the Game Show Channel.
Dwight was always an ardent supporter of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events. He also was an enthusiastic fan of the Indianapolis Colts.
In 2017, Dwight and his son, Don, participated in an Honor Flight to Washington, DC with many other deserving veterans, a trip they both thoroughly enjoyed.
Dwight is survived by his children, Don (Susan) Dwigans and Mike (Nancy) Dwigans; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Irene Dwigans, Mark Dwigans and Marcia Sledge as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his wife, Edith (Blankenship) Dwigans; his children, Chris Dwigans and Lisa Gay Dwigans; two grandchildren and his sister, Connie Wann.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Monday, October 23, 2023 at Eagle Creek Friends Church; 18325 Eagletown Road; Westfield, Indiana, with Pastor Mike Linville, officiating. Military honors will be conferred by a contingent from the United States Marine Corps and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Monday at the church.
