Mr. Walter Stephen DuBridge, Greenwood, passed away on the early morning of Sunday, December 4, 2022. He was 92. Walter was born June 28, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of the late Walter Stephen and Mary (Warrell) DuBridge.
A child of the Great Depression, Walter would often share memories that as a young boy, he and his parents lived in Chicago directly above a small neighborhood grocery store. He attended and graduated high school there and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Business from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. He then took various courses at Purdue University and the University of Michigan before embarking on a long career as a bank examiner with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Walter retired March 1, 1996 after nearly 40 years of service.
Walter was a proud veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Army. In keeping with his Army regimen, Walter woke up every morning at 5 am and would go on a five mile walk and did so until he reached his mid-80's when he then thought he should drop back to three miles a day.
Walter enjoyed photography, the Chicago Bears and Cubs and reading his Bible and newspaper daily over a hot cup of McDonald's coffee. He was a loyal McDonald's customer, ate an apple a day and could often be found watching news channels on television.
Walter was a kind and loving man with a quiet disposition. He was patient, good natured and never complained. Walter deeply loved his family and cherished each one of them.
Walter is survived by his wife, Dottie (Hack) DuBridge; his children, Christine DuBridge-Monroy and her husband Raul; Crystal Henry and her husband Chris; Vickie Burdine and Danny DuBridge; his grandchildren, Travis DuBridge, Carson Connor, Caelyn Henry and Benjamin (Lila) Burdine and his great-granddaughter, Clementine Burdine.
He was preceded in passing by his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with military honors conferred by a contingent from the United States Army and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
