Mr. Walter Phillip Wilson, Ruskin, Florida, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the PAM Specialty Hospital in Sarasota. He was 81. Phil was born February 4, 1942 in Russell Springs, Kentucky, a son of the late Homer David and Betsy Marine (Hubbard) Wilson.
Phil moved to Indianapolis and attended Thomas Carr Howe High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1960. He had been employed at Ford Motor Company as a supervisor and retired in 1995 after nearly 40 years of service. Before moving to management, Phil had been a member of the United Auto Workers Local 1111.
Phil was a former member of the Oaklandon Baptist Church in Indianapolis and after moving to Florida following his retirement, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ruskin.
Phil spent much of leisure time golfing, fishing, bowling and playing cards. He also enjoyed going on cruises and traveling with the Sonshiners. Phil will be remembered as a very generous and loving man.
Phil is survived by his wife, Ann Wilson; his children, Tiara (Tim) Holman and Wayne (Julie) Wilson; his grandchildren, Timmy Holman, Jr., Nick Holman, Autumn Mills, Brandi Wilson and Kendra Wilson; his great-grandchildren, Kaylee Holman, Logan Holman, Cole Holman, Gabe Mills, Riley Mills, Sara Wilson and Nevaeh Bell. He is also survived by his nieces, Tina, Debbie and Vickie.
In addition to his parents, Phil is preceded in passing by his first wife, Sara Wilson as well as his siblings, Grady Wilson, Margaret Skaggs and Roger Wilson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 20, 2023 in the chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Pastor John Dunaway officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
