Wanda Lois Bird (Hardy), 90, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and her Pastor. She was married to Richard E. Bird, her husband of 70 years. Wanda was born on October 14, 1934, in Salem, Indiana and was the daughter to Bessie and Eugene Martin.
Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, and servant of the Lord. She worked alongside her mother and stepfather as a tile-setter and later became the proud owner of Birds and Bees Flower Shop. She and Richard were faithful members of Greenwood Bible Baptist Church where they dedicated many years to ministry. Wanda was actively involved in various ministries including the visitation ministry, the bus ministry, and they loved teaching the 5th-grade girls Sunday School class. Together they touched countless lives with their kindness and unwavering faith.
Wanda and Richard were married on July 27, 1954, and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Richard served in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves before they began their life together.
Wanda is survived by her loving husband, Richard E. Bird; daughter Lesa West (Bird) and husband Terry West; and son Michael Bird and wife Sheila Bird (Siefert). She had 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Wanda was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Deborah L. Morrison (Bird), in 2007.
A viewing will take place on Friday, February 28, from 12:30PM- 2:30PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd 135, Greenwood, IN 46143. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Greenwood Bible Baptist Church, 1461 Sheek Road, Greenwood, IN 46143.
