Wayne Lee Lucas, 61, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Community South Hospital. Wayne was born on May 29, 1950 in Indianapolis, IN to Gladys Aretta (Hicks) Lucas and the late Lewis W. Lucas. Wayne married Juanita L. Jenkins on April 25, 1987 in Indianapolis.
Wayne was employed as a blacksmith welder for Beech Grove''s Amtrak Maintenance Facility for 30 years. Wayne was a grown-up big kid who loved toys of all sizes. He loved the outdoors, his tractor, fishing, and his dogs. Wayne loved to whistle and was known to make up songs. He was also a window-witcher and kept tabs on the neighborhood. But above all, Wayne loved his children and grandchildren.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife Juanita of 24 years; their children: Melissa Bub'' Bracken; Tricia Pat'' Elkins (husband, Mike); Richard Gregory; Ronnie Sullivan; and Cindy Kemp; mother Retta Lucas; brother Bill Lucas (wife, Terrie); sister Sally Langdon (husband, Homer); 5 grandchildren: Josh Elkins (wife, Shanise); Brittani Elkins; Dustyn Bracken; Courtnee Elkins; and Russell Bracken; and 2 great-great grandchildren: Cambree Elkins and the soon-arrival of Kingston Elkins.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father Lewis W. Lucas.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 3, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. The funeral service will be on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
