William Robert Bob'' Walker, 91, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011. Bob was born on April 23, 1920 in Beech Grove to the late Cecil Garrett and Beulah Faye (Yeager) Walker. Bob honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy. He married the love of his life and best friend Ruth Kumpart on January 27, 1942.
Bob was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years as a carpenter, retiring in the early 1980s. Bob loved to camp, fish, and wood work at home. Bob was also well known for playing cards.
Bob is survived by his loving children: Carolyn Walker Mayes and Cheryl Walker Hill (Steve); daughter-in-law Lou Franks; brother Richard Walker (Judy); 7 grandchildren: Kim Mayes, Brian Reynolds (Angel), Brent Reynolds (April), Adam Franks (Stacey), Jennifer Weber (Ken), Stephanie White (Mike), and Shannon Schwier (Christian); and 22 great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ruth of 65 years; son David Walker; and brother Don Walker.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
