Bill Bright, 78, retired coach and Athletic Director of the University of Indianapolis, passed into our Lord''s arms on February 1, 2011. He was born in Elnora, IN on May 26, 1932 to Morton and Minnie Bright. After graduation from Indiana Central College, he pitched baseball for two years in the Philadelphia minor league affiliate in Terre Haute. Bill was drafted into the US Army in 1957 and was stationed at Fort Sill, OK. During those two years, he flew around the country playing baseball and basketball for the All Army team. Bill was a legendary collegiate player for Indiana Central College. He still holds nine Greyhound pitching records. Bill was with U. of I. for 36 years, serving as baseball coach, cross country coach, (winning the State title), basketball coach and later, Athletic Director. He started the Hall of Fame for U. of I., was on the N.C.C.A committee for six years; founding father in establishing the Great Lakes Valley Conference; received the Walter Brenneman Award; Amateur Baseball All American Hall of Fame at U. of I. and the Indiana Hall of Fame. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat, two children, Pam and Steve Bright as well as two grandchildren, Justin and Nicholas Bright. Bill and Pat were charter members of Rosedale Hills United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5, at 11:00 am at Rosedale Hills U.M.C., 4450 S. Keystone Ave., Indianapolis, 46237. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the church, with additional calling one hour prior to service time on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the Athletic Dept. of the U. of I. Funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood.
