William "Bill" Ray Hurt, Sr. 83 of Greenwood passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Bill was born in Mt Vernon, Indiana on April 19,1941 to Rev George and Evelyn Hurt.

Bill graduated from Columbus North High School in 1959 and Ball State University in 1963. He met the love of his life Norma (Scherer) at Ball State, and after graduating in 1963.

Bill and Norma were married at Smith Valley Baptist Church, and Bill began his long career as an educator in central Indiana.  Over the course of 40 years Bill was a golf coach, a math teacher, athletic director, driver's ed teacher and technology coordinator. He retired from Greenwood High School in 2002, to focus on his passions: golf, reading, watching the Reds and Colts, and spending time with his three children and eight grandchildren.

Bill was an active member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood for decades and served on the board of directors for Servant's Heart as well as Baptist Homes International.

Bill was proceeded in death by his parents and dear sister Esther. Survivors include his wife Norma (Scherer)  daughters JoAnn and Jennifer Madden, son-in-law Jim Madden and son Ray. Grandchildren Peyton Hurt, Alex Hurt, Will Madden, Martha Madden, Patrick Madden, Brendan Madden, Jack Madden and Cormac Madden.

Visitation will be Monday, February 17, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be a short visitation prior to the funeral service beginning at 9:00 AM. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
