Willie Martin Wooldridge, Sr., age 88, of Indianapolis, formerly of Greenwood, died August 24, 2014. The son of Joe Samuel and Izora (Brown) Wooldridge, Willie was born March 5, 1926 in Indianapolis.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Willie served during WW II. Willie retired in 1984 after 35 years of service as a regulator mechanic with Citizens Gas & Coke Utility. He was a member of the 25 Century Club at Citizens Gas. Willie enjoyed working on cars, lawn mowers and in general, fixing things. He also enjoyed taking some time to watch tv.
Survivors include his wife, Betty L. (Havens) Wooldridge of Indianapolis, whom he married on July 1, 1947; son, Willie M. (Linda) Wooldridge, Jr. of Cornelius, North Carolina; daughter, Karen L. Horn of Greenwood; sister, Loretta Jean Arnes of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Willie was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Wooldridge and a sister, Jane Vaughn.
Rev. Marion Glover will officiate funeral services 10:00 a.m. August 29, 2014 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. August 28, 2014 at the funeral home. Entombment with military honors will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
