Wilson Dudley Binion

Wilson, son of Bud and Virgie, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday February 5, 2015 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Wilson was born on October 6, 1930 in LaFayette, Tennessee and moved to Indiana in 1950 with his loving wife Sandra Pharris Binion.

Wilson was preceded in death by his parents Bud (1986) and Virgie White Reese (1993) and his loving wife, Sandra (2001) after 51 joyful years of marriage. Wilson is survived by his devoted daughters, Deborah Binion Loy and Sharon Regina Binion, son-in-law Mark A. Loy, and three grandchildren, Jennifer Rose Loy, Eric Wilson Loy, and Shelby Rae Abner. Wilson was also blessed with a great-grandchild from Shelby, Brooklyn Jade Buchanan, born in 2014.

Wilson served honorably in the United States Air Force as a flight mechanic from 1952-1956. Wilson''s strong work ethic and determination to succeed and provide for his wife and children is exemplified in his work record. Wilson worked at Stokley Van Camp from 1956-1968 before purchasing his first neighborhood grocery, Sandy''s Market at 10th and Techumseh Street, in 1968 which he owned until 1973. In 1974 he purchased Sandy''s Food Market at Meridian and Arizona Street which he owned until 1980. After this Wilson worked at Econimation as a tool and die maker until, through his tireless pursuit of excellence, he achieved advancement into a managerial position where he stayed until, sadly, his company was forced to downsize. Undaunted Wilson started a business as a paint contractor where he faithfully performed his duties until a disability ended his working career in 1988.

Wilson, from his upbringing in rural Tennessee, was the consummate outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing with absolute gusto. Wilson''s hunting skills helped feed his family from nature''s bountiful stock. He took several fishing vacations with family and friends to Canada, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and, of course, his beloved Tennessee where his fishing prowess was put to the test and never found wanting. Deborah often talks of spending many a happy day fishing at Geist Reservoir in Indianapolis with her dad and grandfather catching more than crappie; catching love and cherished memories of togetherness with every laughter-filled cast.

Wilson was an avid golfer, self-taught with an unorthodox but never-the-less effective swing, he played as often as he could and lived the dream every amateur golfer possesses when he aced the par three fourth hole at Winding River Golf Course in Indianapolis.

Adoring fan of Indiana University basketball, the Indiana Pacers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson spent many a happy hour enthusiastically relishing their amazing successes and silently suffering their inevitable failures.

Wilson was a member of Masonic Lodge #669 and Eastern Star. Wilson, a devout follower of Christ, was a member of Indian Creek Christian Church where he spent many a glorious Sunday in devotion. Wilson will be greatly missed and all that knew him are better for the experience.

Services 11:00 a.m. February 10, 2015 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. February 9th at the funeral home.
