Obituary

Mr. Winburn Curtis (Curt) Goad of Indianapolis passed away in the morning of Sunday, January 9, 2022. He was 92. Curt was born March 17, 1929 in Macon County, Tennessee, a son of the late Winburn Odis Goad and Finette Jones.

Curt is described by loved ones as being gentle, honest, kind-hearted, and the best euchre partner. He loved camping and the outdoors, was a terrific bowler, delighted in watching Indiana Pacers games, and became an avid card player while serving two years in the Army. He shared his love of card playing with so many family and friends, and he passed his love of card games to many of his grandchildren.

From Tennessee, Curt hitch-hiked to Indianapolis, where he soon married, settled down, and raised three children. He worked at Inland Container for 38 years. Following retirement, Curt committed most of his waking hours to the second love of his life: fishing. Around the Indianapolis pay lakes, Curt was known as "Goldfinger" and was a legend for his passion for the sport of fishing. On any given day, sometimes even in the rain, he could be found fixing rods, reels, and bobbers he refused to buy new, cleaning his catch, or frying a mess for his loved ones. Curt was at his happiest seeing a bobber bounce on the water and spending time with his family.

Curt is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Martha June Goad; siblings Dick Goad, Dub Goad, Brenda (Donald) Harris, Jimmy (Nancy) Goad, and Jody (Sam) Oldham; son Ronald (Cheryl) Goad, stepson Steven Parker, stepdaughter Debbie (Richard) Beaman; grandchildren David Wernsing, Andy Wernsing, Elizabeth Goad, Dusty Beaman, Chris Beaman, Matt Beaman, Tony Beaman, Amanda Beaman, Steve Parker, and Britt Parker; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his first wife, Ruth; sister Betty and brother-in-law Norman Law, sister Lucy and brother-in-law George Jones, sister-in-law Barb, and brother-in-law Butch Doss; and son Donald Goad and daughter Debbie Roney.

Services to honor and celebrate Curt's life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home (1922 S State Rd 135, Greenwood, IN).

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association ( www.alz.org ).
